Pivot Point: Learning, Leadership & Growth
How to Design Your Next Chapter Without Reinventing Your Whole Life Overnight
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You do not need a dramatic overhaul to prove you are serious about change. If you are feeling restless, stuck, or overdue for a reinvention, I walk you through a grounded way to design your next chapter with clarity instead of panic and with momentum instead of chaos.
We start with four questions that bring discernment to any career change, leadership transition, or personal growth season: what you are leaving behind, what you are carrying forward, what you are stepping into, and what you need to do first. That shift matters because it turns reinvention from an emotional reaction into an intentional design process, helping you keep what is still true while releasing what is simply expensive to maintain.
Then I share a simple tool I use again and again: a four-box next chapter map. You create headings for Keep, Release, Explore, and Commit for 30 days. We talk about how to protect stability by naming strengths and relationships you are keeping, how to release roles and habits that no longer fit without making it dramatic, how to explore new directions through low-risk experiments that give you real evidence, and how to choose one small 30-day commitment that you can put on your calendar today.
If you want a next chapter you can actually live, this is your invitation to start ordinary and stay aligned. Subscribe, share this with someone who is in transition, and leave a review with the smallest step you are ready to sustain.

Welcome To Pivot Point
SPEAKER_00Hello everyone, my name is Colin Bolton, and I'm the founder and CEO of Nextplan Institute. Welcome to Pivot Point, where we explore how thoughtful reinvention actually works, through discernment, values, systems, and one aligned next step at a time. Today's episode is called How to Design Your Next Chapter Without Reinventing Your Whole Life Overnight.
Four Questions Before You Change
SPEAKER_00Before you rush into change, ask yourself four questions. What am I leaving behind? What am I carrying forward? What am I stepping into? And what do I need to do first? Those questions transform reinvention from
The Four-Box Next Chapter Map
SPEAKER_00emotional urgency into intentional design. And when people ignore this part of the process, they often create unnecessary friction. When they honor it, they usually create more clarity, more energy, and more sustainable movement. If you're trying to design the next chapter, here's the mistake that creates panic. You assume you need a total overhaul to prove you're serious. You don't. You need a design sequence, a way to move from fog to form without blowing up your whole life. So I'm going to give you a tool, a four-box next chapter map. It's not complicated, and that's the point. Complexity often becomes procrastination disguised as planning. There's four boxes in this framework. Box one is the keep box. What stays? Skills, relationships, routines, values, strengths. Reinvention that erases everything creates instability. Write what you're keeping so you don't treat your past like a problem to delete. Box two is the
Build Your Keep And Release Lists
SPEAKER_00release box. What's costing more than it's giving? Commitments, identity performances, roles, habits, or relationships that no longer fit. Release is not dramatic. It's the decision to stop paying for what you don't want to keep.
Explore Experiments And 30-Day Commit
SPEAKER_00Box three is the explore box. What are you curious about but haven't tested? New roles, a different pace, a different field, creative work, training or leadership paths. Exploration is where you gather where you gather evidence before you commit. And box four is your commit box for thirty days. Not forever, for thirty days. Choose one small commitment that moves you towards the person you're becoming. A weekly networking call, a course module, a portfolio project, a boundary, or a morning routine that restores you. Once you've filled the four boxes, your next step becomes obvious. Not because life is certain, but because your plan has shape. Before you move on, pause long enough to choose one small design move. The goal of this map isn't to create pressure, it's to create shape. Pick one box to work on today, so your next chapter becomes something you're building, not something you're waiting for. Create four headings keep, release, explore, commit for 30 days. Write three items under Keep and Release. Choose two explore experiments you can run without quitting your life. Make one 30-day commitment and put the first step on your calendar today. Reinvention that lasts usually looks ordinary at the start. It's a few aligned decisions repeated long enough to become a new normal.
Small Steps That Actually Last
SPEAKER_00So don't ask what's the biggest leap I can take. Ask what's the smallest step I could sustain? That question builds a next chapter you can actually live.

Closing Reminder On Reinvention
SPEAKER_00Until next time, remember, reinvention does not always begin with the leap. Sometimes it begins with one aligned decision.
